The Chicago Sky have a 7-21 record during the 2025 WNBA season, which places them 12th in the league standings. They are currently 7.0 games back from the final playoff spot with just 16 contests left in the year.

Two-time All-Star forward Angel Reese has enjoyed another stellar campaign, averaging a career-best 14.2 points and 3.7 assists, as well as a league-leading 12.6 rebounds per game. Unfortunately, she has played in just 23 games, missing five of the Sky’s last seven.

In her absence, the Sky have gone 0-5, averaging just 63.4 points per game and losing by an average margin of 22.6 points. This poor stretch has taken Chicago almost completely out of the playoff picture.

Chicago Sky Announce Angel Reese Will Miss Third Straight Game

On Tuesday evening, the Sky will host the 13-15 Washington Mystics at Wintrust Arena in Chicago. The team has already ruled Reese out for the game with a back injury once again, meaning she will now miss her third straight contest.

Chicago is now facing a decision about potentially shutting down Reese for an extended stretch, and perhaps the rest of the 2025 season. The benefit of this would be making sure that Reese’s back heals properly and focusing on her long-term health instead of rushing her back for an unsalvageable season.

Given the low odds of making the playoffs and the current eight-game losing streak, it may be better for the Sky to take this route. This would also allow them to take a better look at players like Kamilla Cardoso and Maddy Westbeld, both of whom have been outshone by Reese thus far in their WNBA careers.

Chicago Sky Fans Call for Angel Reese to be Shut Down for Extended Period

Sky fans certainly echoed this sentiment upon the announcement that Reese would miss her third straight game, as they believe it may be the best thing for her and the franchise moving forward.

“Wouldn’t be surprised if she doesn’t play the rest of the year at this point,” one fan said.
