Angel Reese’s competitive nature was on full display while butting heads with Nola Henry after the Rose BC head coach didn’t rush to challenge a questionable foul call.
With just over two minutes remaining in the third quarter of the Rose’s 61-55 win over the Vinyl, Reese was called for a shooting foul on Dearica Hamby in the paint. Though the 22-year-old initially appeared to make contact with her opponent’s forearm going up, a replay showed that she managed to pull her hand back just in time.
Moments after the whistle sounded, Reese strongly pleaded with Henry to challenge the ruling on the court, stressing the fact that it marked her fourth foul of the contest. Following the animated display, her coach obliged and the call was reversed.
Taking to social media, droves of viewers questioned why Reese needed to make a scene in order to convince Henry to challenge the call. “Angel shouldn’t have to beg nola to challenge a clearly winnable foul call #unrivaled,” one X user wrote, with another adding: “Bout time Nola actually listened to Angel.”
A third chimed in, “Angel begging for reviews and nola just staring at her blankly oh freaking BROTHER.”
Fortunately for the Rose, Reese didn’t find herself in any further foul trouble until the game was already out of reach. The star forward finished the night with 16 points, 15 rebounds and one steal as she propelled her team to a third-straight victory in Unrivaled.

In the closing minutes of the fourth quarter, Reese iced the game by poking the ball out of Rhyne Howard’s hands as she drove to the basket – leading to an uncontested layup by Brittney Sykes on the other side of the court. The Chicago Sky phenom continued to tail her teammate down the court and shout words of encouragement in the leadup to the pivotal score.
Speaking to reporters on the heels of the win, Henry commended Reese for always competing and bringing immense levels of energy to the court. “It’s been such a pleasure to coach her. She comes in with the same mindset, the same mentality every day,” she said.
“You know what you’re gonna get from her. You’re gonna get a competitor, you’re gonna get somebody that’s fun, that’s gonna lighten the group up through competing. That’s a lot of the way that she brings a certain level of … lighthearted youthfulness is through competing and talking trash.
“She’s been playing really well for us. Like tonight, she’s literally at 16 and 15. So we can’t ask for her to do anything more. Not only is she doing that in the game, she shows up and she gets extra work in. So honestly, it’s been a pleasure to coach a player like her.”
