After a stellar WNBA rookie season with the Chicago Sky, Angel Reese enjoyed a couple of months off before joining the new 3-on-3 Unrivaled league’s inaugural season.
Reese found herself on Rose Basketball Club, which unfortunately fell to 1-4 after a 75-63 loss to Sabrina Ionescu (New York Liberty) and Phantom Basketball Club on Friday night.
Reese had another decent night in Miami, Florida, where the games are held. The former LSU Tigers star finished with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting and seven rebounds. But Ionescu looked fresh off a WNBA championship, notching a game-high 32 points on 11-of-18 shooting, seven rebounds and eight assists.
During the TNT broadcast of the Unrivaled game, a fan captured a moment when Reese and her teammates were having a discussion on the bench. The audio appeared to show Reese taking an explicit jab at Ionescu’s defensive abilities.
“They can’t stop it,” Reese appeared to say. “Sabrina can’t (expletive) guard.”

“We all know Sab can’t guard,” one fan said.
“Players do this all the time, lol she didn’t lie,” wrote another.
“And she’s right so,” added a third.
Other fans took Ionescu’s side, saying she still cooked on offense.
“She doesn’t have to guard when she can out shoot your team the way she did tonight,” one fan wrote.
“Sabrina dropped 32 points after coming back from Paris lmao,” added another.
“And y’all couldn’t guard her. She cooked your whole squad,” posted a third.

Reese (11.6 MPG) has received the third-most minutes on Rose’s six-player roster through five games, averaging a near-double-double of 11.6 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. Ionescu, on the other hand, is third in the league in scoring with 21.3 points per game and first in assists at 5.3.
Reese and the Rose will be back in action on Saturday against the Laces BC, while Ionescu and the Phantom (2-3) play on Sunday against Mist BC.
