Before they were teammates with the Chicago Sky, Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso battled it out in college as two of the biggest stars in the NCAA. As a matter of fact, the pair was involved in a controversial moment last season during a heated matchup between Reese’s LSU Tigers and Cardoso’s South Carolina Gamecocks.
On March 10, 2024, South Carolina came out on top against LSU, 79-72. The win did not come without incident, though. In fact, Cardoso got herself ejected from the game following a bench-clearing scuffle between the two sides — one that would require a 20-minute game delay to settle the mess.
Before the scuffle, Reese was caught on camera pulling on Cardoso’s hair as the pair were battling for a rebound.
While the incident did not directly lead to the fight, there’s no denying that it was a controversial moment in what turned out to be a heated contest between the two teams.
According to Reese, however, it was all accidental. The Sky forward explained herself on the latest episode of her “Unapologetically Angel” podcast as she revealed how she reached out to Cardoso about the incident as soon as she realized they were going to be teammates in Chicago.
“That was an accident,” she said. “I was going for a rebound. It was something I wanted, I went to go get it, something was in my way, it was the wig. It was an accident, though.

“… When I got to the draft, the first thing I made sure I did was apologize to Kamilla because I know we was going to be teammates. I was like, ‘Kamilla, I want to tell you this right now. I apologize for your wig.'”
All is well that ends well. Cardoso herself recently made it clear that there is no bad blood between herself and Reese.
After all, these two are going to be the cornerstones of the Chicago Sky for the years to come, and it would be crucial that they get along well.
