Boy Fired for Helping Connor McDavid Gets Life-Changing News the Next Day
Seventeen-year-old Josh, a part-time employee at a convenience store in Edmonton, never imagined how one act of kindness would change his life forever. Known for his dedication and hard work, Josh’s job was his way of saving for college and helping his family. But one ordinary shift turned extraordinary when NHL superstar Connor McDavid walked into the store.
McDavid, casually dressed and trying to keep a low profile, was in a rush to grab a few items. As he approached the checkout, he fumbled with his wallet, dropping a handful of bills and cards. Without hesitation, Josh stepped out from behind the counter to help McDavid pick them up.
In doing so, he temporarily left his post, causing a delay for other customers. The manager, who had been observing the situation, was unimpressed. “We don’t pay you to leave the counter,” she said sternly. Despite Josh’s explanation that he was simply helping a customer, the manager saw it as a breach of protocol and decided to terminate him on the spot.

Josh was devastated. Not only had he lost his job, but the humiliation of being fired in front of customers, including McDavid, weighed heavily on him. He went home, unsure how to explain the situation to his family.
The next day, as Josh was still processing the events, there was a knock at his door. Standing on the porch was none other than Connor McDavid himself. Holding a signed jersey and a warm smile, McDavid explained he had witnessed the unfair treatment and wanted to make things right.
“You didn’t deserve that,” McDavid said. “What you did yesterday wasn’t just kind—it showed integrity, and that’s something I respect.”
McDavid then handed Josh a letter of recommendation and offered him a job in his foundation, which focuses on youth development and community outreach. The position, which came with a generous salary, would allow Josh to pursue his college dreams while making a difference in the community.
News of the story spread quickly, with many praising McDavid for stepping up and supporting Josh. For Josh, what started as a day of disappointment became a turning point in his life, reminding everyone that acts of kindness and integrity can lead to incredible opportunities.
Oilersnation Radio: Connor McDavid suspended 3 games ahead of Oilers’ matchup with the Capitals
It’s Tuesday afternoon, which means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is ready to massage your earholes and cover all of the Edmonton Oilers’ biggest stories. On this week’s podcast, we discussed Connor McDavid’s three-game suspension, Derek Ryan clearing waivers, Alex Ovechkin’s goal record chase, and much more.

We kicked off the Tuesday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about Connor McDavid’s three-game suspension and whether the NHL got it right. Given that the refs were responsible for the whole mess, many hockey fans were surprised that both players received matching suspensions. As you’ll hear, no one is really upset with the DoPS for their decision but rather that the situation was allowed to boil over in the first place.
Sticking with the McDavid suspension, we looked at some of the drawn penalty numbers that don’t make much sense regarding what Connor has to deal with on a nightly basis. We also looked at players around the NHL speaking up about the incident and how no one seems to have a problem with McDavid reacting the way he did. That also brought around another round of debate about whether the Oilers have enough toughness with the lineup when these situations arise.
With No. 97 out of the lineup for the next three games, Kris Knoblauch blended up his line combinations at Tuesday’s practice and bumped a couple of players up in the roster. With guys potentially getting more opportunity, now would be the perfect time for some depth scoring to help raise the tides. Finally, we wrapped up the Tuesday episode of ONR with the triumphant return of Dan’s Game that revolved around Tuesday’s opponent.
