ESPN Proposes Blockbuster Indiana Fever Trade To Help Caitlin Clark
The WNBA season restarts on Thursday, as players return from the extended Olympic break.
One of those players will be Caitlin Clark, the projected 2024 Rookie of the Year. Clark and the Fever are currently 7th in the league, holding on to one of the final two playoff spots as we restart the season.
With Clark and her teammates set to make a playoff push, ESPN has come up with a trade idea that could help the Fever get to where they want to go.
ESPN’s Kevin Pelton is suggesting a major deal with the Washington Mystics that involves a former No. 2 overall draft pick.

In this scenario, the Fever would send Katie Lou Samuelson, NaLyssa Smith and Victaria Saxton to the Mystics. In exchange, the team would acquire Brittney Sykes and Myisha Hines-Allen.
Smith is a former No. 2 overall pick, but Pelton says the Fever need more spacing in order for Clark to run the offense more effectively.
Smith was brought in to be a scorer, a role she no longer needs to occupy with Clark, Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell on the roster.
Pelton also says that Sykes would be an upgrade over Samuelson as a wing defender, a massive need for the Fever this season.
The teams would also exchange draft picks in this proposed deal, with Washington sending Indiana a second-rounder in 2026 in exchange for a first-rounder the next year.
The Fever will look to improve their team through free agency, and they’ll have little need for another first round pick, especially if they’re a playoff team this season and will be picking near the end of the round.
Washington is in a total rebuild, and they should be open to moving veteran players like Sykes and Hines-Allen for draft capital.
We’ll see what happens near the August 20 deadline, but the Fever could put themselves in position to secure a playoff spot with a deadline deal.
