Caitlin Clark has been a star for the Indiana Fever in her first season in the WNBA, but Hall of Famer Sheryl Swoopes believes her teammates are ready to mutiny.
Caitlin Clark’s colleague Erica Wheeler delivered a flawless rebuttal to Sheryl Swoopes’ remarks that the rookie sensation’s Indiana Fever teammates might be pondering an exit due to Clark and her fame.
Despite Clark’s impressive rookie season performances, Swoopes has been a vocal critic and persistently belittled the 22-year-old’s achievements.
Her latest jab at Clark was aired during her stint on the Gil’s Arena podcast with ex-NBA player Gilbert Arenas.

On the podcast, Swoopes posited that the attention garnered by Clark in Indiana may not sit well with her fellow players, but she admitted her comments were purely speculative.
“There’s a lot of other stuff going on, that players are like ‘This ain’t where I want to be,'” Swoopes asserted while on the show. “You have players that are very significant on this Indiana Fever team that are like, ‘I don’t know if this is where I want to be.'”.
“The basketball veteran elaborated: “I’m not in the locker room. I don’t know. I’m not even on the team. “”.
Wheeler took a different view when addressing the media during shootaround, where the Fever stalwart highlighted Clark’s influence on the team and her demeanour off-camera.
“All we do is have fun with Caitlin Clark, who never takes anything serious,” Wheeler shared. “I tell people all the time she’s really a kid at heart. And then also, Christie and the coaching staff, they’re lighthearted so they’ll allow us to have fun.”
“But there’s moments when we need to be serious and we are serious. But a majority of the time, we’re having fun because we kind of understand the outside world was really trying to get inside this building – we just didn’t let it. And having fun is a great way to kinda keep that out.”
Despite dismissing her own claim as baseless, Swoopes shifted her focus onto Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell. She speculated that the increased pressure on Boston might prompt her to leave, and the prospect of greener pastures could tempt Mitchell, a free agent, to depart.
“So what happens when Aliyah ain’t playing well again? ” Swoops questioned, referring to Boston’s slow start to the season. “So, as a player, do you want to continue to stay in a situation where you keep yourself vulnerable to all of the hate that you know is going to come to you if you’re not playing the way everyone thinks you should be playing? “.
On the topic of Mitchell, Swoops commented: “Not every player who’s a free agent should leave because the grass probably ain’t gonna be greener for you. But a player like Kelsey Mitchell – Kelsey Mitchell could be very valuable to any team.”
Swoopes has again minimised Clark’s accomplishments and style on the court. The basketball icon recently commented that despite Clark breaking numerous records as a rookie and averaging 19.5 points, 8.4 assists, and 5.7 rebounds this season, she does not consider her “dominant.”
“Those are hell of a numbers, but to me that’s not dominating,” Swoopes said. She added: “What I said was: I didn’t think Caitlin, or Angel [Reese], would come into the league and dominate immediately. Which I don’t think either of them did. I still don’t think she’s dominating, but she’s a different player than she was in the first half of the season.”
