Caitlin Clark and Cheryl Reeve have a contentious relationship that stems from Clark’s 2024 Olympics snub.
Reeve, head coach of the Minnesota Lynx and Team USA’s women’s basketball squad last year, caught serious heat for leaving the Indiana Fever star off the squad.
Not helping matters was a May 2024 tweet in which Reeve appeared to echo a fan’s frustration that WNBA coverage focused too heavily on Clark.
Their relationship reached another level during the latest matchup between the Fever and Lynx.

Despite this game being broadcast on ESPN, neither had a ton at stake. The Fever clinched their position in the WNBA postseason following their win against the Washington Mystics days before.
The Lynx had already locked up the league’s top seed heading into the postseason.
Even still, Reeve surely still wanted to see a good performance against Indiana, despite the opposing team not having Caitlin Clark on the court.
The Fever star guard, who recently announced she was out for the season because of a groin injury she suffered back in July, was as animated as ever.
She took one opportunity to flex her team’s success early on in the game when cameras caught her jumping off of Indiana’s bench and began emphatically signaling for a timeout, clearly saying that it was time for Cheryl Reeve to call a timeout for her squad.
ESPN’s X account posted a video of this with the caption, “Caitlin Clark calling a timeout for the Lynx 😅.”

Caitlin Clark’s Sophomore Season Went Terribly
Injuries defined Caitlin Clark’s second year in the WNBA.
Despite injury-shortened play, she was named a WNBA All-Star for the second consecutive year. Even still, fans who had hoped to see her play would only see her seated on the bench for multiple games.
In her second year, Clark has dealt with a left quad strain, a left groin injury, and, eventually, a right groin injury in July 2025 that would end her year for good. As a result, she was also forced to miss the All-Star Game.
These setbacks limited her to just 13 games, a significant decrease from her rookie year.
Before this year, she did not miss a game while playing in college. We can only hope that her third year plays out a lot better.
