Cameron Brink is truly blessed to have the biggest support system in the world around her. Considered the royal family of the NBA, the Currys share a close connection with Brink and her family. A close friend of Cam’s mother, Sonya Curry became the godmother of the former Cardinal star.

Being the mother of two professional basketball players, Sonya knows all too well the nerves that are part of the draft night. Having gone through it with her sons, she was there to cheer her goddaughter on the WNBA draft night. When Cameron’s name was called as the second pick by the Los Angeles Sparks, it was an emotional and proud group that stood around the happy 22-year-old.

Brink was seen hugging Sonya before she made her way to the stage. In Curry’s most recent Instagram post, she shared a heartwarming message to Brink. “It was such a surreal experience watching my Goddaughter @cameronbrink22 get picked second in the 2024 WNBA draft by the LA Sparks! “

“Witnessing firsthand, her journey to this day has been nothing short of AMAZING! I can’t wait to see how God continues to use you on the next level! LA here we come!”

Brink, the reigning Naismith Defensive Player of the Year for her part, showed her appreciation for her godmother’s support and love through the years as she talked to  Holly Rowe of ESPN. “I think I just need to keep leaning on my people. My Godmother Sonya Curry is over there ‘Hi God-momma.’” She continued thanking her family and her brother for sticking with her dream even when it would have been difficult.

Cam also shares a strong bond with Stephen and Seth Curry. There is no doubt that much of her younger days were spent watching Curry annihilate opponents and dominate the NBA.

Both the Curry brothers and the family as a whole are a wealth of basketball knowledge. And having gone through the process already, she thought talking to them would calm her nerves.

It did. She shared the tale of what happened when she FaceTimed both Steph and Seth before arriving at the event.

While her elder god-brother was nothing but supportive and encouraging, Seth decided ditching her would be the best course of action. Apparently, he hung up on her the moment the video popped open! Everyone around her burst out laughing at Seth’s antics.

Despite it all, the two brothers and other Curry family members posted congratulatory messages on their IG accounts. Cameron Brink was practically family and they felt her success as their own.

It’s hard to say who was the most proud among them. Cam simply has the best group of well-wishers.
