Carter caused controversy after being axed by the Chicago Sky.

X, formerly known as Twitter, recently erupted when Chennedy Carter seemed to hit out at Angel Reese, after she began a free agent and exited the Chicago Sky, but now the 26-year-old WNBA star rushes to clear the air by explaining she meant herself.
The guard is now open to find her next team after the Sky didn’t make a qualifying offer to keep her at the Wintrust Arena for 2025, essentially deciding they no longer wanted her on their roster.
And many fans would’ve expected her and Reese to offer a sorrowful parting of the ways, after appearing to become friends throughout the season and supporting each other infamously in games against Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever.
Yet that may not be how it played out as Carter appeared to head to social media to talk about “consistently” making layups putting players in another tier, something Reese has struggled with as fans interpreted it as a shot at her.
But in a bid to quickly clear the air, the fourth-year professional made sure she explained she was actually talking about herself and was putting pressure on herself to improve her overall game for 2025.
“Angel is a special player,” Carter told Sky fans via X.com, formerly Twitter. “I love watching her. This season, we had a great relationship.
“And I don’t feel like the way things went on Twitter, it shouldn’t have went like that. I was specifically speaking of me.
“I’m a valuable player because the closest shot on the court is the layup or the mid-range and that’s what I specialize in doing.”
Carter thanks Chicago
Carter found her career on the ropes as recently as 2023 after being waived by the Los Angeles Sparks on the grounds of “poor conduct”, but it was the Sky who picked her up and gave her the chance to prove herself.
And she repaid them with averages of 17.5 points per game, 3.6 rebounds per game and 3.1 assists per game as she managed to breathe life back into her career, whilst also being second in the WNBA for layups percentages for players below 5ft 10in.

“I came to a new organization, I was embraced. I was loved,” Carter said of her time with the Sky. “I came from playing eight minutes to playing.
“Doing a lot of things for the organization that I really love and respect for giving me the opportunity. The narratives of me being unhappy and this and that can’t be possibly true.”
