What Dawn Staley wishes Chloe Kitts hadn’t revealed in South Carolina press conference at SEC Tournament
GREENVILLE – Chloe Kitts was the star for South Carolina women’s basketball Friday at the SEC Tournament until she got to the press conference.
The junior forward scored 11 points in the fourth quarter, and nine of them were during South Carolina’s 16-0 run to close out the 84-63 win over No. 8 seed Vanderbilt at Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
Kitts finished with a career-high 25 points. When Kitts was asked about her fourth-quarter performance, she stumbled for the first time of the day.
“I was just going out there and playing confident. My coaches, and the point guard, kept saying 14, which is kind of get the ball to me,” Kitts said. “I just delivered. I was just going out there.”

“Thanks, Chloe,” Gamecocks coach Dawn Staley said, cutting her off.
“What?” Kitts responded.
“You just told them our play,” Staley said.
Kitts’ jaw dropped as she realized what she had just said. She apologized, and Staley and MiLaysia Fulwiley couldn’t help but laugh on the podium.
South Carolina’s 25-point halftime lead was cut to five points with four minutes left. But Kitts answered with seven straight points to spark the 16-0 run. She was 12-for-14 shooting and added 10 rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block in a team-high 29 minutes.
“To play with a player like Chloe is great,” Fulwiley said. “Puts a lot of less work on you. I feel like when Chloe is doing good, it motivates all of us to want to do good, motivates the post players to do whatever they can do to help her succeed. When Chloe is playing like that, we’re a hard team to beat. I’m proud of her.”
