“Overrated”: Connor McDavid slammed ahead of final

Connor McDavid will lead his Edmonton Oilers into their second consecutive Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers on Wednesday. But with this being his tenth season in the NHL without a Cup, some are beginning to call him overrated.
Despite being considered the best player in the world and having won five Hart Trophies, Connor McDavid has yet to win a Stanley Cup. Last season, McDavid and the Oilers fell short against the Florida Panthers in seven games. Ahead of this year’s rematch, analysts say McDavid has a lot to prove.
Connor McDavid called overrated
During this season’s playoffs, Connor McDavid has tallied a whopping 26 points in 16 games. But according to Miami Herald sports columnist Greg Cote, just scoring points isn’t good enough. McDavid needs to win, and Cote does not mince words:
“McOverrated does not mean McDavid isn’t great. He is. But enough with the McJesus, next-Gretzky hyperbole. He isn’t perfect. Nothing special defensively. Prone to turning the puck over.
Oh, and this minor thing: NO CHAMPIONSHIPS. Zero Stanley Cups in his 10th NHL season. Unless he triumphs during the next two or three weeks, the hole in McJesus’ résumé and legacy will remain a crater. Without a Stanley Cup win… McOverrated,” Cote writes.
Game 1 will be played Wednesday night in Edmonton. We will see if Connor McDavid proves Cote wrong.
