Dawn Staley and the Burge twins played together for the Virginia Cavaliers women’s basketball team from 1989-92.
Here is an article that published on April 3, 1992, 12:00 a.m:
“Only a frontcourt duo as special as Heidi and Heather Burge could make Virginia coach Debbie Ryan refashion her team’s offense.
But the 6-foot-5 identical Burge twins are now the Cavaliers’ focal point, although Dawn Staley and backcourt mate Tammi Reiss are hardly in the shadows. The Burges, juniors who are making their third straight appearance in the women’s Final Four, will lead Virginia (32-1) against Stanford (28-3) in the semifinals Saturday. The winner advances to play Western Kentucky or Southwest Missouri State on Sunday.
Heather is the physical post player, averaging a team-high 17.4 points and 8.5 rebounds. Heidi is most comfortable shooting from outside and averages 10.2 points.
Since they started playing as high school freshmen, the two learned to work in tandem.
“We have a high-low situation that’s just great,” Heidi said. “If they collapse on her in the low post, which often happens because she’s such a powerhouse, that leaves me wide open.”
Heather is officially the center, but Heidi often takes over when her sister is on the bench. The Cardinal won’t get a break.
Heather and Heidi like hearing such comments, seeing them as an indication that they’ve moved past being what Heather calls “human oddities” to highly regarded players.
“The focus is off the Guiness Book and people see that we’re a major part of the team,” said Heidi, who with her sister are listed in the record book as the world’s tallest living female identical twins.
Staley is top player
Dawn Staley, Virginia’s versatile point guard, was named Champion USA’s Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s Division 1 player of the year on Thursday for the second straight season.

Staley, a 5-foot-5 senior from Philadelphia, is the Cavaliers’ career scoring leader and has led her team to three straight Final Four appearances”.
