“Dawn Staley Breaks Silence with Powerful Message to Ex-Gamecock Bree Hall After Shocking WNBA Move!”
Dawn Staley Celebrates Bree Hall’s WNBA Return with Golden State Valkyries
Dawn Staley, the legendary head coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball team, continues to make headlines—not just for her coaching success, but for the lasting impact she has on her former players. With an illustrious résumé that includes three national championships, seven Final Four appearances, one SEC regular-season title, and nine SEC Tournament titles, Staley has built a powerhouse program that consistently sends elite talent to the professional ranks.
One of those talents, Bree Hall, is the latest Gamecock to earn another shot in the WNBA, as she has officially signed with the Golden State Valkyries. The team made the announcement earlier this week via social media:
“Roster Update: The Golden State Valkyries have signed guard @breezyhalll. Hall will be available on Thursday against Indiana.”
Hall, a guard who played under Staley from 2021 to 2024, gradually developed into a key contributor during her four seasons in Columbia. Known for her tough defense, clutch shooting, and leadership on the floor, she averaged 5.8 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 0.7 assists per game over her career at South Carolina.
She was selected in the WNBA Draft by the Indiana Fever, but after being released from the roster, her future in the league became uncertain. That changed with the Valkyries’ announcement—giving Hall a fresh opportunity to prove herself on the big stage.
The move wasn’t just exciting for Hall—it also struck a personal chord with her former coach. Dawn Staley took to social media to offer a heartfelt and empowering message to her former player:
“Let’s get it @breezyhalll,” Staley wrote. “I love this for you!!! @Theblackqueen take care of your @GamecockWBB sister!!!”
In that message, Staley also gave a shoutout to another former Gamecock, Laeticia Amihere—known on social media as @Theblackqueen—who currently plays for the Valkyries as well. It was a beautiful show of sisterhood and continued Gamecock pride.
The Golden State Valkyries, a new WNBA franchise based in the Bay Area, are quickly assembling a competitive and energetic roster. With Bree Hall set to make her debut Thursday night at 10 p.m. ET against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever, all eyes will be on how the former Gamecock guard handles her return to the league.
From her time on the hardwood at Colonial Life Arena to the bright lights of the WNBA, Bree Hall’s journey is a testament to perseverance and the strength of the Gamecock legacy—a legacy Staley continues to grow every season.
