The South Carolina Gamecocks have had to endure a lot this season. However, they bounced back from their tough loss to UConn with a statement win, proving to be one of the strongest outfits in college basketball.
Notably, MiLaysia Fulwiley’s sophomore year has been instrumental to their success. She showed flashes of great play in her freshman year, and coach Dawn Staley wants her to keep adding to her game.
That’s why, after scoring a career-high 24 points against Vanderbilt, coach Dawn Staley praised her for her improved shot selection and decision-making, as she’s making the most of her speed and physicality as opposed to settling for threes.
Dawn Staley tells Fulwiley that ‘no one can stop her’
“That’s something we talk about all the time, ‘nobody can stop you; your speed is your superpower,’” Staley said. “She’s playing her best basketball. It’s coming together for her. She’s a young talent, she’s a competitor and losses really bring out something (in her). Just a more focused, she’s more efficient, she’s not settling for taking 3-pointers, she’s actually attacking the basket to make layups.”

That’s the ultimate praise coming from someone who’s been around greatness for as long as coach Staley. Also, she’s known for her tough love, so this speaks volumes about her feelings for her star player.

The Gamecocks are still one of the teams to beat in the nation, and if Fulwiley keeps this aggressive approach, whoever they face will have a tough time staying in front of her.
