There are few more decorated American Olympic athletes than Phoenix Mercury superstar Diana Taurasi. After all, the three-time WNBA champion has five Olympic gold medals to her name. She is now looking to up her tally to six golds with Team USA now just two wins away from winning the tournament in the Paris Games.

One of the few athletes who has an even more stellar resume than that of Taurasi’s is swimming icon Michael Phelps, who has no less than 28 Olympic medals in his trophy case.

Apparently, Taurasi’s and Phelps’ kids go to the same school, which prompted quite an epic first meeting between these two legends.

“Yeah, that’s my boy,” Taurasi said of Phelps, via Doug Feinberg of the Associated Press. “Our kids go to the same school. They’re in the same class.

“You know, it’s funny, Penny (Taurasi’s wife) and I were taking Leo to class one day and we’re like, ‘Oh, we’re going to be the only gold medalists. Show and tell. I’m going to bring my five gold medals.’ And we look back and Michael’s bringing his little son into the same class, and me and Penny just laughed.”

Not too many people in the world can upstage Taurasi, which makes it so funny that she happens to share the same class as Phelps’ son.

There’s nothing but love between the pair, though. According to Taurasi, they “spend a lot of time with [Phelps] at school.” The WNBA icon also said that Phelps is a “legend” for coming out to support Team USA in their quest for a gold medal in Paris.

Even if she wins a sixth medal in the 2024 Olympics, however, Taurasi’s tally will still be 22 short of Phelps’ unbridled collection. That’s wild.
