Kings’ Adrian Kempe Fined for Illegal Play on Oilers’ Connor McDavid
Los Angeles Kings forward Adrian Kempe has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the NHL’s collective bargaining agreement, for slew-footing Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid during Monday night’s game.
The league’s Department of Player Safety announced the fine on Tuesday after the incident took place at 8:30 of the third period of the game between Kings and Oilers.
Kempe and McDavid tangled along the boards and the Oilers captain was sent to the ice after Kempe used his leg to knock the forward’s feet from under him—a dangerous act known as slew-footing.
Despite the foul, no penalty was called during the game and both Kempe and McDavid finished the matchup unpunished, whether that was legally or physically.
Edmonton went on to win the matchup 1–0, with McDavid scoring the lone goal on the day.
Kempe, 28, is in the midst of another strong season for the Kings, leading the team in goals with 20 and ranking second in points with 39 through 41 games.
The Kings are 24-12-5 and sit third in the Pacific Division with a four-point margin over the Calgary Flames in fourth place.
Los Angeles, aiming to bounce back from consecutive losses, will face the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday in the second game of their ongoing road trip.
