Fans are left stunned after Caitlin Clark reveals the real reason she was desperate to avoid getting a technical in latest WNBA game.
Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark has revealed the real reason she was desperate to avoid getting a technical foul in Sunday night’s WNBA game against the Dallas Wings.
The win over Dallas was Indiana’s second-to-last game of the regular season, with Clark sitting on six technical fouls.
A seventh would have given Clark a one-game suspension, and she would have sat out of the Fever’s final game before the postseason on Thursday against the Washington Mystics.
Clark is not in danger of missing any playoff action, as a Fever spokesperson confirmed the number of technical fouls a player has amassed resets at the beginning of the playoffs.
Yet, Clark claims she is looking out for her fans in the nation’s capital.
‘Well, I didn’t think they were gonna give me a technical at any point tonight. I would’ve been really sad for people in Washington DC,’ Clark said. ‘I didn’t want to do that. I tried my best.’
‘But my teammates did a really good job in that. They think it’s funny and then Aliyah (Boston) is the one that ends up with a technical. That’s the best part about it all.’
‘She’s the one babysitting me and somehow she ends up with a technical. And she didn’t really do anything. She was just standing there. So that’s what was funny to me.’
Now that Clark knows she won’t miss any time due to her technical-foul accumulation, the rookie star wants to move past a future where being suspended for picking up too many technical fouls is on the table.
‘Now it’s basically over. I don’t have to worry about that anymore,’ Clark added. ‘But I don’t want to be getting technicals at all. And my mom doesn’t want that for me either and I don’t want to pay any more fines. So I’m done with that.’
The Fever are locked in to the WNBA’s No 6 seed, meaning a first-round playoff matchup against the Connecticut Sun is looming.
The Sun won three of the four matchups between the teams in the regular season, with the Fever coming out victorious in the most-recent matchup.
