Multiple refereeing errors revived conspiracy theories against Kansas City.

Matthew Wright gave the Chiefs their 12th win of the season with a 31-yard kick.
One more win and one more controversy for the Kansas City Chiefs. The last-second victory they achieved on Sunday night over the Los Angeles Chargers caused a furor among fans and detractors of the team. Especially the latter flooded social media with accusations of fraud.
The 19-17 victory over the Chargers in Week 14 was only the most recent of the 15 victories by less than a score that the Chiefs have achieved between 2023 and 2024. On this occasion, kicker Matthew Wright scored the winning field goal with just one second on the clock, unleashing all kinds of conspiracy theories.
The Chiefs’ last offensive series was indeed full of refereeing errors. However, fans question whether all those mistakes seemed to favor Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ team, leading them to their 12th win of the season in exchange for just one loss.
Fan accusations
In a post on its X (formerly Twitter) account, the NFL highlighted, “Patrick Mahomes converted two crucial third downs on the Chiefs’ game-winning drive. Clutch again.” However, one fan responded almost immediately, “yeah but you rigged it by not calling any holding etc.”
Another said, “Anyway, that Chiefs game was so rigged,” and a second supported it by saying, “This is the most fraudulent 12-1 team ever.” Another recalled the alleged fixing of Super Bowl LVIII, “Chiefs always get away with holding watch the Super Bowl clips.”
The officials received the most criticism, with one fan asking for an investigation. “I won’t say we didn’t benefit from calls but come on, investigate the refs. How was this not called holding on the RT or RG?” the fan demanded.
The Chiefs have the unconditional support of their fans
However, Chiefs Kingdom was not silent, with one fan saying, “Clutch again! All the haters will say it’s rigged, it’s luck, it’s black magic etc! Haters will always hate when a team is winning! But I bet you if their team was winning they wouldn’t say it’s luck, it’s rigged or black magic! Right? Y’all haters some clowns enjoy these rings.”
One more summed up the feelings of Kansas City fans this way: “The persistent ‘luck’ talk around KC is so frustrating because it completely negates plays like this that they make down the stretch to win close games. Just have to get over the fact this team is REALLY good.”
