Chennedy Carter Receives Flagrant Foul For Hit To Marina Mabrey’s Face
Chicago Sky star Chennedy Carter was involved in a physical act against Marina Mabrey and the Connecticut Sun on Friday, resulting in a flagrant foul penalty for the Sky guard.
Carter was guarding Mabrey on the block when the Sun guard attempted to spin into the basket and find the rim.
The Sky star was playing low when Mabrey was about to attempt a layup around the basket, and she decided to bring down the hammer on her former teammate.
There may have been some intention in the play since it was such a forceful act, and that’s what the referees seemed to believe after they replayed the film and gave Carter a flagrant foul.
The play instantly went viral on social media, with nearly every WNBA fan account reposting the video of Chennedy Carter’s hit on Mabrey.
At the time of the hit, Chicago was leading the Sun 14-9 with 2:18 left in the first quarter.
Given Mabrey’s history in Chicago, having played for the team in 2023 and half of the season in 2024, there were thoughts that a play like this could happen, but something of this nature in the first quarter is rare.
The Chicago Sky players may have hinted at potential beef before the game even tipped off.
A video of the team passing by Mabrey in the pregame warmups without greeting the former member of the team surfaced on the internet, and WNBA fans had a frenzy with the tension.
Despite Mabrey playing a big role in the Sky’s lineup during the 2024 WNBA season, averaging 13.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game, a couple of Chicago’s players don’t seem to have a great bond with the Sun guard.
