New Details Revealed in Kobe Bryant Plane Crash: 2025 Report
In 2025, new revelations have emerged regarding the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the life of basketball legend Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and seven others. More than five years after the accident, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released additional findings that shed light on what really happened on that fateful day.

According to the latest report, the crash could have been completely avoided. Investigators now say that the pilot, Ara Zobayan, became severely disoriented while flying through dense clouds—a condition known as spatial disorientation. In such situations, pilots can lose awareness of which way is up or down, and whether they are leaning left or right. The NTSB stated that the pilot violated federal regulations by continuing to fly in poor visibility conditions where disorientation was highly likely.
Instead of slowing down or trying to regain visual reference, the pilot made a rapid climb and banked the helicopter slightly to the left, accelerating to 140 mph. Aviation experts note that under such conditions, training calls for slowing the aircraft to maintain control, but in this case, the pilot did the opposite. The NTSB’s report highlights this crucial error as the primary cause of the crash.
The investigation also emphasized that the helicopter was not equipped with a terrain awareness and warning system (TAWS), which could have alerted the pilot to rising terrain ahead and potentially prevented the tragedy. In light of these findings, aviation safety advocates in 2025 are urging federal authorities to require all helicopters, especially those carrying passengers, to be equipped with TAWS.
These new details bring a degree of closure to one of sports’ greatest tragedies while serving as a sober reminder of the importance of aviation safety—and the lasting consequences when protocols are not followed.
