What happened in Pittsburgh when hockey superstar Sidney Crosby encountered a homeless woman on a chilly winter evening. As Crosby walked downtown after a Penguins game, the woman shyly approached and asked, “Can you give me $1?”.
Instead of simply handing over spare change, Crosby paused, looked her gently in the eyes, and responded with remarkable kindness that left onlookers stunned.
Rather than giving her a dollar, Crosby asked the woman if she’d eaten. Learning she hadn’t, he warmly invited her into a nearby restaurant, where he ordered her a substantial meal. As they waited, Crosby sat beside her, listening intently to her story and learning about the hardships she’d faced.
Witnesses described Crosby’s genuine compassion, noting that his humility shone brightly as he gave the woman not just food, but also respect and companionship. Afterward, Crosby quietly handed her resources for a local shelter and some additional money to help her through the coming days.

When asked about the encounter later, Crosby humbly said, “Everyone deserves dignity and kindness. Sometimes a moment of compassion can change a person’s entire day, maybe even their life.”
This gesture of empathy from Crosby resonated deeply, reminding everyone that even small acts of kindness can leave lasting impacts far beyond a single dollar.
Penguins’ Sidney Crosby records multi-goal game vs. NHL-record 31st team
One of the best players in the history of the game has etched his name in a unique chapter of the record book.
On Tuesday night, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby scored two goals against the Vegas Golden Knights, making him the first player in league history to have multi-goal games against 31 different NHL franchises.
Crosby got the scoring started in the contest with a power-play goal in the first period, before potting his team-leading 23rd marker of the season minutes into the middle frame.

The Golden Knights came back to tie the game, but the Penguins prevailed, 3-2, thanks to Erik Karlsson’s winning goal in overtime.
Even during the careers of Guy Lafleur, Phil Esposito and Wayne Gretzky, when teams seemed to move around every few years, not even they scored as frequently against as many teams as Crosby has.
The only two teams Crosby has yet to score twice in a game against is the Utah Hockey Club, who Pittsburgh has already played twice this season, and, of course, the team Crosby has been with for 20 seasons, the Penguins.
The 37-year-old has reached a few other milestones throughout the 2024-25 season. Back in October, he became the 10th player in NHL history to reach 1,600 points. He continued to climb the charts by surpassing Hockey Hall of Famer Joe Sakic for ninth all-time in league scoring.
With the two goals against the Golden Knights, Crosby also hit 70 points for the 15th time in his career, becoming the fifth player to accomplish the feat. Only Hall of Famers Gordie Howe (18), Wayne Gretzky (17), Marcel Dionne and Ron Francis (16) have posted 70 points that many times in their careers.
This season, the Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia native has scored 23 goals and 47 assists in 65 games. In 1,336 career appearances, he has notched 615 goals and 1,051 assists for 1,664 points. Crosby has won three Stanley Cups during his time in Pittsburgh, winning the Conn Smyth Trophy in 2016 and 2017.
Crosby continues to show younger players how to play the game

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – The arena was on hat trick watch after Sidney Crosby scored his second goal just three minutes into the second period. That didn’t happen but we continue to see high level play from the Pens captain in a 3-2 overtime win over Las Vegas Tuesday.
“I don’t know, I think as a line we were creating some chances,” Crosby said. “Rakell made some great plays, Rust was all over the puck. I think we were just opportunistic and good on pucks and got chances because of it.”
He can deflect it to his linemates, but before the overtime winner by Erik Karlsson, Crosby had scored the last four team goals, a second such streak this season. The 37-year-old also reached the 70-point mark for the 15th time in his career. The only three who have done it more times, Ron Francis-16, Wayne Gretzky-17 and Gordie Howe-18. He also moved into 22nd place all-time in multiple-goal games and continues to add numbers to his Hall of Fame career.
Since the Four Nations Face-Off, where he captained Team Canada to a championship, Crosby as points in seven of the last nine games with four goals over that span. He is nine points from setting the NHL record with a 20th consecutive season averaging at least a point per game.
“I just think he’s playing a game that we grow accustomed to watching all the time,” said Pens head coach Mike Sullivan. “He’s an elite player and I think he’s trying to lead through example with our group as far as setting the standard of what it means to be a Penguin. I know it’s important to him.”
“I know the legacy that’s been built here on the shoulders of him, Geno and Kris … I think there’s been just an incredible legacy that these guys have built of winning and excellence and those things and I know it’s important to Sid and those guys to continue to carry that torch and show this younger generation what it means to be a Penguin.”
