Indiana Fever guard announces engagement ahead of 2025 WNBA season

Lexie Hull is celebrating more than just her growth on the basketball court. The Indiana Fever guard announced her engagement to longtime partner Will Matthiessen on Friday night with a simple yet powerful gesture: a black-and-white Instagram Story photo of her engagement ring, paired with a single emoji.
Hull and Matthiessen met while they were student-athletes at Stanford University. While Hull made her mark on the basketball court, Matthiessen played college baseball and was selected in the sixth round of the 2019 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
After spending several seasons in the minor leagues, he pivoted to a new career path and now works as an analyst at Sapient Capital, according to his LinkedIn profile.
The engagement marks a new chapter for Hull, who had a standout season with the Fever in 2024. She averaged 5.5 points in 19.7 minutes per game, finishing with the highest three-point shooting percentage on the team at 47.1%.
Her chemistry with new teammate Caitlin Clark was one of the more exciting developments for Indiana, with Hull crediting Clark’s elite passing ability for creating easy scoring opportunities.
Impact beyond the engagement
While the engagement news is personal, it also indirectly touches on another Fever duo-Caitlin Clark and her longtime boyfriend, Connor McCaffrey.
As close friends and teammates, Hull‘s announcement could signal a shift in team dynamics and potentially influence future decisions for the young Fever core, both on and off the court.
Hull, Clark, and the rest of the Fever will open their highly anticipated 2025 season on May 17 against the Chicago Sky at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, a matchup that will also feature Angel Reese’s regular season debut. With emotions high and the roster more connected than ever, the Fever are poised for a breakout year-and Lexie Hull’s off-court joy may just bring even more energy to Indiana’s title push.
