Insider reveals the real reason Brad Marchand was traded.

A National Hockey League insider has just dropped a bombshell revelation, one that may very well alter how many fans of the Boston Bruins view their team moving forward.

On Saturday night, insider Elliotte Friedman revealed significant details about the specifics surrounding the departure of former Bruins captain Brad Marchand during a segment on Hockey Night in Canada. Friedman laid out, in detail, how and when the negotiations turned sour, with an apparent act of good faith from Marchand backfiring in the worst way.

“I think the Bruins and the player had agreed on terms, 3 years,” said Friedman on HNIC. “Where I think this really went sideways was there was a point this week where Brad Marchand asked for a face to face meeting with Bruins management. I don’t know exactly when it was, I don’t know exactly who was there, but it did happen and in that meeting Brad Marchand asked for a compromise.”

Marchand seemingly extended an olive branch to the Bruins in an effort to get a deal done and remain a Bruin for what presumably would have been the rest of his NHL career.

“He said ‘I will compromise, I will bend, on some of my ask and I’m asking the Bruins to bend on some of their stance and we will find a way to get this deal done’ cause he wanted to stay as a Bruin,” revealed Friedman.

So how could it all have gone so wrong with the Bruins captain so obviously willing to come down from his number in order to ensure his future as a Bruin?

“It just didn’t happen,” said Friedman. “The Bruins had gone as far as they were willing to go.”

According to Friedman, Marchand did not take the response from the Bruins very well.

“He’s got an incredible amount of pride and he puts everything on the line, I think he was really stung by that,” admitted Friedman.

The Bruins inability to come to a compromise did not sit well with their now former captain, and it was all she wrote from that moment forward.

“I think it really hurt Marchand that the face to face meeting couldn’t get a deal done,” said Friedman in conclusion.
