The Fever are already making moves.
The Indiana Fever know changes need to be made. Caitlin Clark just finished a historic rookie season and is already lifting the WNBA to new heights. The 22-year-old is a generational talent on a legendary trajectory. She already owns several records and just finished fourth in MVP voting as a rookie.
The Fever need to build a title contending roster around her. It was clear they did not have enough depth in the playoffs as head coach Christie Sides scrambled for a fifth option. They need roster upgrades, but not just talent. The Fever must find the right pieces to maximize Clark.
Indiana already brought back Kelly Krauskopf to lead their front office, but they were not done there. The architect of the Fever’s best run in franchise history changed the GM and added even more firepower to Indiana’s decision-makers.
Amber Cox named COO and GM: Lin Dunn moves to senior advisor
Former GM Lin Dunn was demoted after two-plus years of leading the front office. The 77-year-old legend drafted Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark, but there were plenty of disastrous moves under the former head coach. Dunn led the Fever to a championship in 2012 and will stick with the organization, but the new decision-makers are calling the shots.
Krauskopf will be the lead executive for the Fever with Cox as her number two. The newcomer joins after serving as the Dallas Wings COO and was Vice President for Sports of the Connecticut Sun from 2016 to 2021. Cox also has experience in college basketball, MLS, and the NLL.
The Wings reached the semifinals in 2023 with Cox in a key decision-making role, and the Sun were in the top four for three straight years from 2019 to 2021. She has been around winners, and Cox hopes to have a hand in bringing a championship to the Fever.
Fever’s front office faces crucial offseason
Indiana must decide what to do with head coach Christie Sides. Dunn hired her, and there were plenty of schematic issues this season. Sides did well brining the team together, but do the Fever chase after a more experienced coach with an up-tempo attack to bring the best out of Caitlin Clark?
After their coaching decision, the front office must add talent. The Fever projected to have cap space, a top-eight draft choice, and assets to trade in upgrading their roster. There will be interest in playing with Clark, but can they get the right pieces? Krauskopf has a plan, but executing is key.
The Indiana Fever have revamped their front office ahead of a crucial offseason. Will it result in building a title contender around their superstar? Stay tuned to find out.
