Iowa women’s basketball coach Lisa Bluder is trending for all the wrong reasons.
The 24-year veteran leader of the Hawkeyes went off in the media room after Nebraska pulled off an impressive 82-79 upset at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
Bluder seemed irritated by the fact that Nebraska’s players were at the podium for the postgame press conference before Iowa. Typically, the visiting team speaks with media before the home team.
That seemed to be what set Bluder off. In the video below, you can hear the Iowa coach ranting.
“We got a flight to catch. This is bulls***,” Bluder said. “This is not Big Ten protocol.”
Mitch Sherman of The Athletic provided further context on the situation.
“Actual full context is this: Nebraska players took an extended time to get off the court, because of the celebration. When they showed up for the press conference, Iowa still had not come out of the locker room,” he reported on X.
Then Iowa appeared. Bluder threw a fit and never came back.”
Let’s be honest, it sounds like Bluder was more upset about her team getting beat than anything else. You’d probably be irritated if your team blew a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter, too.
Jaz Shelley led the Huskers with 23 points and Alexis Markowski recorded her 14th double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Caitlin Clark, who is chasing the all-time scoring record for NCAA women’s college basketball, finished the game with 31. She was held scoreless in the fourth quarter.
