Oilers Announce Connor McDavid News After USA-Canada Game.
The NHL season resumes on Saturday with 28 teams slated to return to action as the dust settles on the 2024 4 Nations Face-Off.
That will include the Edmonton Oilers, who are slated to face-off against the Philadelphia Flyers at 1 p.m. ET.
Superstar Connor McDavid, who scored the overtime-winning goal against the United States late Thursday evening to win the championship for Canada in Boston, will be rejoining the Oilers on the tight turn-around
Many questioned whether McDavid would play given rest and logistics. But with no reports of health issues, head coach Kris Knoblauch confirmed that he is determined to play despite any inconveniences of the hectic transition per NHL insider Adam Kimelman.
“Sometimes you worry about the player not having a break, all these other players had a break. But with Connor, I don’t think I could force him, I don’t think I could keep him away from the rink.”

McDavid rejoins the Oilers’ push for their first Stanley Cup since 1990 having just finished the tournament tied for second overall in total points, owning five.
While the tournament was a one-time affair, it set an all-time record viewership for NHL games and prepared the global stage for the 2026 Milano Winter Olympics and the 2028 World Cup of Hockey.
“Just to see the reaction. Just to know what it means to us. I know it’s just a quick tournament, and it’s not an Olympic gold medal or anything like that, but it means the world to our group, as you can see,” McDavid said.
“I hope [the new fans] love it,” he added. “It’s a great game, it’s a great sport, and I hope we put on a good show these last couple days and gained some fans, ultimately. You can’t ask for a better show than that.”
