Connor McDavid joined an exclusive NHL club that was previously only had one member, Wayne Gretzky.
But now it’s two after McDavid dished out a pair of assists in the Oilers’ 3-2 loss to the Devils on Thursday night.

McDavid has now topped 60 assists in a season for the ninth year in a row. According to ESPN, Gretzky was the only prior player to have such a streak.
The streak began for McDavid in his second NHL season. During the streak, he has totaled 615 assists and counting. That includes four times leading the league with a high of 100 assists set last season.
McDavid has a long way to go to match the entirety of Gretzky’s streak, though.
Gretzky, as a 19-year old with the Oilers, dished out 86 assists in 1979-80. He actually had more assists than that in every season from then through 1991-92. In that stretch, he had 11 consecutive seasons with 100-plus assists and a high of 163 in 1985-86.
While Alex Ovechkin may soon pass Gretzky’s goal record (894), his assists record seems practically unbreakable.
Gretzky finished his NHL career with 1,963 assists. Ron Francis holds second place at 1,249. McDavid, who is 28, is currently at 705 NHL assists.
