The Olympic bronze medal winner who stunned fans with her celebration has explained why she did it.
On Wednesday night, Canada’s Alysha Newman won the bronze medal in the pole vault, finishing behind Team USA’s Katie Moon and Australian Nina Kennedy.
After winning her country’s first-ever medal in the women’s pole vault, Newman left fans stunned with her celebration.
The 30-year-old, who owns an OnlyFans account, bent her legs, put her hands on her thighs and started to twerk.
Since then, the celebration has gone viral and prompted a six-word response from a BBC commentator.
Speaking after the event, Newman explained: “I’m so excited. I laugh because getting third is, I mean I’ve never got third, but it’s funny because you have to still wait and sit there and wait until the other girls are done.
“So I’m so awkwardly standing there like, ‘What do I do? Do I celebrate? Do I kiss everyone? Do I cry?’”
She added: “It was a really surreal moment and it was awesome. I just feel like I’m very emotionally stable right now and just feel so honoured to be the first (women’s) pole vaulter to bring home an Olympic medal for Canada.”

During an interview with German news outlet BILD, Newman spoke about her OnlyFans account.
She said: “I post a lot of my training sessions, talk about nutrition and lots of tips and tricks. I earn money with what I post – you have to log in to find out. It makes me confident and I feel good about it.
“Of course, many people have a certain cliché when they think of OnlyFans. I can’t change many people’s minds. But this website has connected me with many fans, more than any other pole vaulter before.”
Newman continued: “What others think about it doesn’t bother me. I am who I am and I do it well.”
Speaking about her victory, Australian star Kennedy said: “I knew first-attempt clearances at those high bars were going to take the gold. I put all my focus into that exact second, and that’s how I won.
