Radio host JRSportBrief issued an apology Friday after getting called out on social media by South Carolina women’s basketball team head coach Dawn Staley.
Staley demanded an apology after the host described South Carolina basketball player Kamilla Cardoso in “an offensive way” during an Audacy Sports Minute covering the Women’s NCAA Tournament.
What a morning?!! Never thought I’d hear one of my players described in such an offensive way.
I’m not sitting this one out. Kamilla deserves an apology @CBSSports @1075thegame (can be issued even though it’s out of your control)
JRSportBrief apologized a few hours later via a post on X.
A local Columbia station that aired the comments also apologized to Staley, Cardoso and the South Carolina team.
Staley replied to the apologies in a later post, saying she appreciated the swift apology.
Thank you @1075thegame for the swift apology both written and on air!
This means a great deal to Kamilla and myself as I do tune in daily.
