Rejecting Ellen DeGeneres’ Style, Brittney Griner Chose “Edgier” Clothing That Ended Up Offending People: “With Ellen, We Chose Women’s Clothes and Add Menswear Touches”.

Brittney Griner is considered one of the, if not the greatest, women’s professional basketball players of all time. Creating a record for most dunks in a single game, she dunked the ball twice in a single game. In addition, she also became the first woman ever to dunk in the WNBA postseason.
She gave the message loud and clear in the very beginning of her career- she was here to make history and make a difference in the women’s league. Moreover, the Phoenix Mercury star did not just dominate on the basketball frontiers but also on other frontiers. Her attempts trying to do so also often offended people at times.
Brittney Griner prefers menswear to traditional women’s clothing
Like many other women professionals, Brittney Griner tries to break down gender barriers and differences between men and women. She does that naturally too, by wearing menswear clothing. In an article on Brittney, Elle Fashion’s Laurie Abraham features Griner’s fashion choices.

Brittney never liked women’s clothing, she said. She also mentioned that the last time Brittney had worn women’s clothing was for her High School graduation. Even then, she was forced by her mother to wear a dress. From then on, she has only worn menswear. According to Ellen’s designer, who also was responsible for Griner’s clothing, “With Ellen, we chose women’s clothes and added menswear touches.” But, people often didn’t approve of this. In fact, people on the Internet didn’t like her dressing up in menswear, and it often offended their sentiments. They called her “the first man to play in WNBA.” However, Brittney would be unfazed by this and would keep on doing things her way.

She’s just living proof that there are many ways to be a woman. Wearing women’s clothing and make-up are not the only ways to do that. The WNBA star also mentioned in the article that she had skipped make-up sessions after getting selected in the WNBA Draft.
Brittney Griner has faced a lot of struggles in her life. This was the story which was often unheard of about her. What’s your opinion on Griner breaking stereotypes? Let us know in the comments.
