As the Pittsburgh Penguins drift further from contention, speculation about Sidney Crosby’s future continues to grow. While the idea of a trade remains highly unlikely, a recent report suggests the superstar might be open to the possibility—with three specific teams reportedly on his radar.

According to NHL insider Renaud Lavoie, Crosby could consider waiving his no-movement clause under certain conditions. With the Penguins staring down the barrel of a full rebuild, Crosby—who turns 38 next month—may not be interested in sticking around for a long-term transition.

“Are the Penguins rebuilding?

If the answer is yes, does Crosby want to be part of it?

The Canadiens must be in the race if Crosby decides to accept a trade,” said Lavoie on TVA Sports.

Montreal Canadiens in the Mix?

For the Montreal Canadiens, finding a legitimate second-line center is a top priority—and Crosby might just fit the bill. Though it’s still a long shot, the possibility of acquiring Crosby, even late in his career, is a tantalizing idea.

Crosby has long expressed admiration for the Bell Centre, even calling it his favorite arena to play in outside of Pittsburgh. Growing up a Habs fan in Nova Scotia, he’s never hidden his soft spot for the Canadiens.

“Crosby will likely have a list of three teams. We know he has interest in Montreal. He has always said the Bell Centre is his favorite place to play outside of Pittsburgh,”
Lavoie added.
