Rookie Sensation Te-Hina Paopao Wins Over WNBA Fans and Players With Her Hilarious Antics
Te-Hina Paopao Is Already Winning Over Atlanta — With Her Game and Her Jokes
Te-Hina Paopao hasn’t been with the Atlanta Dream long, but it’s already clear — she’s not just bringing talent to the WNBA, she’s bringing personality too.
The former South Carolina Gamecocks star made her WNBA preseason debut against the Washington Mystics, and while she impressed with 7 points, 4 assists, and solid two-way play, it was her postgame humor that truly lit up social media.

When asked about the biggest change in her game-day routine now that she’s a pro, Paopao delivered a hilariously honest take:
“What’s new is that I had my own room. I also didn’t have to ask for permission to leave the hotel, I thought that was so cool,” she laughed. “I’m enjoying it, and I have to take one game and one day at a time.”
The quote instantly went viral, sparking laughter and admiration from teammates and fans alike. Allisha Gray chimed in on X (formerly Twitter), exclaiming:
“Pao pleaseeeee.”
Others couldn’t help but nod to Dawn Staley, South Carolina’s iconic head coach, for keeping her players on a tight, disciplined schedule.
“Dawn has the best daycare security in the South,” one user joked.
But Paopao’s charm doesn’t stop at the mic. Before the season tipped off, the Dream hosted a team event where rookies were encouraged to perform. Naturally, Paopao didn’t shy away from the spotlight — she got the crowd going with a lively dance, instantly endearing herself to fans and teammates.
“I’m so weak, Paopao is killing me lmao I love it,” a fan posted.
Though her sense of humor is grabbing headlines, Te-Hina Paopao is serious about making an impact on the floor. With Jordin Canada suffering an injury early in preseason play, there’s now an open opportunity for Paopao to step up — and early signs suggest she’s more than ready.
Whether it’s her game, her personality, or her ability to keep things light, Paopao is quickly becoming a fan favorite in Atlanta. And if her first few weeks are any indication, the rookie’s presence will be felt both on and off the court all season long.
