Grant Williams makes a case of Caitlin Clark’s Olympic snub (Imagn)
Following her impressive run over the past two years, Caitlin Clark is a player many wanted to see suit up for Team USA in the 2024 Olympics. As fans continue to make an argument for her, one current NBA player compared her with an All-Star on the men’s team.
Coming off a dominant semifinal win over Australia, Team USA has punched their ticket to the gold medal game. Despite how impressive they’ve been in the Summer Games, some continue to harp on Clark being left off the roster.
While engaging with a fan on X (formerly Twitter), Charlotte Hornets forward Grant Williams gave his thoughts on Caitlin Clark playing for Team USA. He compared her to Tyrese Haliburton now, implying that she wouldn’t play much due to the talent on the roster.
“If we were picking for interest then yes CC would be on the team but have some respect for the greatness of DT. You could argue that CC is 2 spots away from being picked. Also what’d be the point of having her on team w/o her playing on court. She’d be Haliburton on this roster.”
There’s no denying Clark’s talent, but Team USA’s roster is loaded with some of the WNBA’s top stars. Among those getting ready to compete for a gold medal include A’ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart, Jackie Young and Jewell Loyd.
Team USA coach speaks on Caitlin Clark not being on 2024 Olympics roster
Caitlin Clark not being on the 2024 Olympics roster was a major talking point for weeks, but Team USA never got caught up in the noise. During their quest for an eighth straight gold medal, coach Cheryl Reeve touched on the rookie phenom not making the cut.
When asked if the dialogue about Clark’s snub impacted them at all, Reeve had a simple response. While they certainly heard all the outside noise, they never let it get in the way of them zeroing in on winning gold in Paris.
Caitlin Clark shouldn’t worry too much about not making this cut this year, as she’s sure to be a focal point for Team USA moving forward. This will likely be the last Olympics she’s left off the roster for the foreseeable future.
Instead of competing with the other WNBA stars in Paris, Clark has got to enjoy an elongated break in her rookie season. The time off surely allowed her to rest and recuperate as she prepares to finish her first year in the pros on a strong note.
