WNBA fans shared their two cents on Phoenix Mercury star Sophie Cunningham for aligning with the Republican party. This comes on the back of the guard taking to Instagram to share a story of Kamala Harris’ podcast appearance where she took a shot at the presidential candidate.
Reddit saw fans weigh in on her pro-Trump stance. One of the fans compared her to Chicago Sky’s rookie forward Angel Reese.

For clarification, it wasn’t as it had “Hot Cowgirl Summer” on the front of it. Now, her latest take continues to garner chatter from fans across social media platforms.
Sophie Cunningham inks extension with Mercury for another season
The veteran guard inked a one-year contract extension on September that will keep her with the Phoenix Mercury — the team that drafted her, through the 2025 campaign. According to Richard Cohen of HerHoopStats, Sophie Cunningham’s new deal is worth $100,000 unprotected, with a $35,000 Time-Off Bonus. Speaking on the extension, the 28-year-old said:
“Before (owner) Mat (Ishbia) came in, I was open to different ideas. I’m a very loyal person; I’ve been with the Mercury and love it. It’s my new home, away from home. I’m seeing how I can set myself up after basketball as well. But right now, I’m where my two feet are at. So you have to know that there’s an expansion draft, and a lot of people’s contracts end after next year. I would love to be locked into Phoenix (and) not going anywhere else. I was thinking about that as well.”
Cunningham appeared in 40 games for the side this season, averaging 8.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per contest. Off the court, the guard also dabbles with broadcasting duties with the NBA side Phoenix Suns as a guest analyst in the offseason.
