Family Raises Doubts Over Suspect’s Arrest

The FBI has taken 22-year-old Tyler Robinson into custody in connection with the fatal shooting of political activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University on September 10. Authorities allege Robinson acted alone, firing a single bullet from a rooftop near the campus. However, Robinson’s grandmother, Debbie Robinson, insists federal investigators have “the wrong man.” She describes her grandson as a quiet, shy, and industrious young man who has never handled firearms or spoken about politics.

Debbie emphasized that Robinson has never hunted, owned a gun, or demonstrated the accuracy required to carry out such a shooting. “He’s a wonderful child… There’s absolutely no way he could have done that,” she told the Daily Mail. Debbie also noted that most of her family are Republicans and that her son, Tyler’s father, is a fervent supporter of former President Trump.

She expressed confusion over the allegations while simultaneously showing compassion for Kirk’s family. Police confirmed that Robinson was taken into custody on September 11 at his residence in Washington, Utah, after a tip from a family member. The investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement reviewing evidence, including digital messages and surveillance footage.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox stated that Robinson had become more politically active in the days leading up to the shooting. Authorities are preparing charges, and if convicted, Robinson could face the death penalty.
