Stephen A Smith PUTS Angel Reese IN HER PLACE After Latest Stunt! She’s Not Caitlin Clark!
Angel Reese, one of the brightest young stars in women’s basketball, found herself in the spotlight once again—but this time, for all the wrong reasons. The LSU champion and WNBA rebounding leader faced a wave of backlash after posting a provocative New Year’s Eve photo, leading to an intense debate about branding, social media, and the fine line between self-expression and professional image.
The controversy reached new heights when ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith weighed in, offering a scathing yet reflective take on the situation. Smith, known for his blunt and passionate sports commentary, didn’t hold back in addressing Reese’s actions and the consequences that followed.

The Photo That Set the Internet Ablaze
On New Year’s Eve, Angel Reese posted a daring photo that immediately sparked reactions across social media. While she likely expected admiration, the response was far from celebratory. Many criticized her for prioritizing social media attention over her professional image, leading to a flood of negative comments—even from some of her own fans.
Faced with the backlash, Reese made a drastic move—she deleted her Instagram account altogether. The decision to go dark only fueled the conversation, raising questions about whether she regretted the post or simply couldn’t handle the criticism.
Stephen A. Smith’s Verdict
Stephen A. Smith addressed the controversy head-on, acknowledging that Reese has every right to express herself but warning that public perception matters—especially for a young athlete trying to build a lasting career.
“You can’t come down the line and complain about being objectified later on,” Smith stated. “If you’re putting yourself in that position, people are going to have opinions, whether it’s right or wrong.”
He further emphasized that Reese, at 22 years old, should be mindful of how she presents herself, particularly in comparison to Caitlin Clark, who has managed to build a strong brand focused solely on her on-court performance.
Perhaps the most pointed part of Smith’s analysis was his comparison between Reese and Caitlin Clark. The two players have been linked since their intense NCAA championship showdown, but Smith made it clear that their career trajectories and reputations are vastly different.
“Caitlin Clark isn’t doing things like this,” Smith remarked. “Her brand is thriving because she’s focused on the game and avoiding unnecessary distractions.”
Indeed, while Reese has been caught in off-court drama, Clark has been making headlines for breaking records, winning awards, and solidifying her reputation as one of the most professional and marketable young athletes in women’s basketball.

What This Means for Reese’s Future
Beyond the immediate controversy, Smith warned that Reese’s choices could impact her WNBA career and endorsement opportunities. While she has lucrative deals with major brands like Reebok and Beats by Dre, ongoing social media missteps could make sponsors hesitant to invest in her.
“In the world of pro sports, your reputation is everything,” Smith said. “If you want to be taken seriously, you have to handle your brand carefully.”
Reese, who has previously spoken about dealing with online hate and unfair scrutiny, is now at a crossroads. Will she use this as a learning experience and focus on her game, or will she continue down a path that keeps her in the headlines for reasons beyond basketball?
Angel Reese’s Mom Cries After Sky Star’s Personal Revelation
Angel Reese’s mom, who shares the same name as the Chicago Sky star, couldn’t hide her emotions after the WNBA star delivered some major personal news.
Reese had her mom, Angel Webb Reese, as a guest in the latest episode of her “Unapologetically Angel” podcast. During the interview, which was apparently filmed during the matriarch’s birthday, the Sky forward surprised her mom with the news that her mortgage has been paid off.
“You said that if your mortgage was paid off, that you would retire or you can pick if you want to work still,” Reese said. “Your mortgage today has been paid.”
The news absolutely shocked Reese’s mom, who almost dropped the cake that her daughter gave her.
Reese’s mom then got emotional and tried to hide her face as she cried. The WNBA standout proceeded to hug her mother.
Aside from the big surprise, Angel Reese also told her mom that she’s planning to buy a house in Chicago and that she’s free to visit and stay with her whenever she wants to.
Reese also made sure to celebrate her mom’s special day by singing her a birthday song.

It’s definitely a heartwarming mother-and-daughter moment, something that Reese and her mom will remember for a long time.
