Everything really has changed for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce since last summer.
On July 6 the power couple—who are coming up on their one-year anniversary—shared a moment at the final Amsterdam Eras Tour concert that was so intimate, you would never
guess they were in a packed arena with around 55,000 spectators—and I’m not even talking about their latest joint exit.
For the first time in 16 years, Swift performed “Mary’s Song” from her self-titled debut album, released back in 2006. Despite its age, the deep cut has come to represent Swift and Kelce’s relationship to many fans thanks to a particularly prophetic lyric—which shemade sure to include in the surprise song mashup with “Everything Has Changed” and “So High School,” a song largely believed to have been written about Kelce for The Tortured Poets Department.
“I’ll be 87, you’ll be 89,” Swift sang with a very knowing smile, per fan recordings. “I’ll still look at you like the stars that shine in the sky, oh my my my.” While both Kelce and Swift
were born in 1989, the 34-year-old NFL player wears the number “87” on his Chiefs jersey in honor of his older brother Jason Kelce.
“The moment we have ALL been waiting for,” the official Swift team account,
However, it was Travis Kelce’s reaction to the mashup that has caused the most emotional response from fans. In another viral video, Kelce appears to wipe away tears throughout the song. Even the couple’s close friend Brittany Mahomes seems to notice, hugging the football player towards the end of the clip.
“I am crying along with Travis 😭😭😭,” one fan commented on the clip, while another wrote, “Not me crying at 6:08am on a Sunday morning crying watching this.”
In the comments section of another fan-recording, which appears to capture Kelce’s reaction to the “87/89” lyric, one fan wrote, “The way this woman can make Travis feel like the only person in the room with over 70,000 people is just incredible.”
Another fan asked, “So we are all collectively crying with him over how sweet this is right? 🥺” More than 3,000 users who liked the comment seem to agree.
