The first-ever showdown between Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers is still a few months away, but the game could already be on pace to set WNBA history.
Bueckers was the No. 1 overall pick in this month’s WNBA draft, sending her to the Dallas Wings just days after she led UConn to a national title.
Bueckers will meet Clark’s Indiana Fever for the first time on June 27 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, a game that comes with a very high price tag. The cheapest ticket listed on Ticketmaster this week was $255, with some courtside seats topping $5,000 when fees and sales tax are included.
The Wings have already moved the game out of their normal home at the University of Texas-Arlington’s College Park Center due to high demand, instead playing in the home of the Dallas Mavericks.
Clark endorsed the move, saying the Wings are a better fit for the bigger arena with the way the college phenom Bueckers will draw in fans.
“That arena is fun to play in: it’s small and it’s loud, but honestly, they should move the games to American Airlines because I think Paige has that type of draw,” Clark said, via the Houston Chronicle. “She’ll be able to bring those type of fans in.”
Clark has already played in the game with the highest ticket prices in WNBA history. Her third meeting with Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky last season had an average ticket price of $271, USA Today reported. This season’s meeting between Clark and Bueckers could have a strong chance to break that record.
