Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs had a chance to make history on Sunday night, sitting just one win away from the first-ever Super Bowl three-peat.
However, they couldn’t get it done, falling to Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles 40-22.
The offense was nowhere to be found in the first half, recording zero points. In fact, the Chiefs didn’t manage to get into the endzone until there was under a minute left in the third quarter. But by then, it was already 34-0 in favor of Philadelphia. Two Patrick Mahomes turnovers in the first half helped give the Eagles all the momentum.
On Monday, one day after the Super Bowl, a new video emerged online of a close-up angle of one particular play from the Chiefs. The footage shows Eagles defensive end Josh Sweat zooming past Kelce as he attempts a block before bringing down Mahomes for a sack.
Although some NFL fans say Kelce’s whiff was part of the play call, others believed the tight end was lacking effort, barely touching the defender. They took to social media to leave their thoughts.
“Half (expletive) effort from kelce there,” one fan said.
“Check out the pathetic block attempt from Kelce and tell me it wasn’t effort. If Kelce isnt moving up to the second level to block he’s garbage. Can only block players he has 40+ lbs on,” added another.
“He gave up,” wrote a third.
“I knew there was lack of effort but,” posted a fourth.
“Kelce might be the only player in NFL history to line up on the line & have to hire security to walk with him,” commented a fifth.
“The lack of effort by Travis Kelce with the Super Bowl on the line is embarrassing. If he isn’t hungry anymore, he should retire,” claimed a sixth.

Kelce finished his fifth Super Bowl with just four catches for 39 yards, but, just like the rest of the offense, he didn’t do much on the stat sheet in the first half with zero catches.
The Chiefs will head into the offseason awaiting Kelce’s retirement decision. If he does return, he could find himself back in the Super Bowl again next season with a chance to go out on top.
