Sophie Cunningham made sure to have the best game of her season against her old team.
Cunningham finished with a team-high 18 points against her former WNBA team and was one of just two Indiana players to put up double digits in the loss.
The Fever superstar was animated as ever during this contest, and for good reason. They traded her during the offseason.
Cunningham was traded from the Phoenix Mercury to the Indiana Fever as part of a three-team deal involving the Dallas Wings. In the trade, Satou Sabally went to Phoenix, and the Wings acquired NaLyssa Smith and the #8 pick in the 2025 WNBA draft from Indiana
In addition to getting Cunningham, the Fever also obtained the No. 19 pick in the draft.
When the Indiana Fever hosted the Phoenix Mercury on July 30, the home crowd at Gainbridge Fieldhouse gave former player DeWanna Bonner a savage reception.
On Thursday night, Sophie Cunningham was in an entirely different situation. The crowd at PHX Arena made their feelings about her abundantly clear. They loved her.
The supporters gave the 6-foot-1 guard a warm ovation as the team showed their tribute video for Sophie Cunningham.
She may love the fans, but she certainly has no love for her former head coach.

Despite being down a ton, Cunningham still wanted to have a great game.
At one point during the second half, she hit a three-pointer and got cheered on by the crowd.
While doing so, she backed up and began looking at Mercury head coach Nate Tibbetts, who was in his first year when he played under him in 2024.
Aside from the staredown, she made sure to clap in his face and his ear as she made her way back to the bench.
