Geno Auriemma vs Dawn Staley. Geno Complained after the UConn vs South Carlina women’s college basketball game claim it was too physical and that it was not basketball.
Dawn Staley was not happy with this as she felt he changed the narrative and she is sick of it. We do a deep dive.
It this Geno Auriemma vs Pat Summit but uglier? Will the series continue or could Staley pull the plug on it like the game with BYU?
Auriemmas’s comment was about what the Refs were allowing S Car to do defensively. I am a x-official and he is right. Refs are allowing way too much contact, holding and grabbing.
Furthermore, and even worse, is some of the tickey tack fouls that the refs do call especially in light of everything they let go. I understand Coach Staley’s comments.
She is protecting the way that her team, AND ALL THE SEC TEAMS PLAY.
That league allows a high level of physicality, which is not allowed by the rule book… She can’t question the refs because she doesn’t want them to change so she has to make it about Geno complaining.
She stated that in the past, SC got blown out many times by UConn and she never complained.
She didn’t complain because UConn didn’t foul them….they outplayed them within the rules.
The problem is the officials. There is no consistency between officials or in some cases, the first half and second half of the same game.
This problem isn’t going to change until officials uniformly enforce the rules. Basketball is a non-contact sport. Enforce the rules or throw the rule book away.
