Millie Bobby Brown: Her Incredible Path to SuccessKeep Watching

Selena Gomez was born to Mandy Teefey and Rick Gomez in 1992. When Gomez turned 5, her parents decided to part ways. The Love On singer stayed back with her mother and was propelled into an acting career early on. In an interview with Entertainment special about her early, Selena revealed that she would “blame” her mom for the separation.

While the divorce led to certain tensions between Gomez and Teefey, they have been able to mend their bond, both personally and professionally. Additionally, the Rare Beauty founder has often credited her success to her mother’s sacrifices and recognized in a 2011 E! interview that having her at the age of “sixteen” was a big responsibility.

Selena Gomez and Mandy Teefey share a close relationship, but it has not been without its fair share of ups and downs. Mandy is a former actress herself and could see Gomez becoming an actor in the future. In a 2017 interview with the New York Times, Teefey revealed that the Single Soon singer would do “casting calls” and “direct” neighborhood kids.

Mandy with her now husband, Brian Teefey managed Gomez’s career until 2014. During those years, Gomez became a Disney teen icon with Wizards Of Waverly Place and was also on the road for her singing tours. Interestingly, it was Mandy’s idea for Gomez to drop her Disney identity and take up more mature roles, such as that in Spring Breakers. Gomez told E! Special in 2013,

“She’s super into indie movies and indie directors … I think it was more of her pushing me and being like, you should go for it.”

While Gomez fired her parents from managing her career in 2014, they have been her biggest supporters. The Lose You To Love Me singer has continued to work on various projects with her mother from time to time. Mandy also introduced the novel 13 Reasons Why to Gomez, who later went on to executive produce the hit series.

More recently, the two joined hands with Daniella Pierson and founded Wondermind. The organization has a host of mental health resources made free and available to everyone.

In 2022, Gomez released My Mind & Me, which showed her vulnerable struggle with lupus and her associated mental health struggles. In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Special in 2022, Gomez and Mandy revealed that they were not ready to watch the documentary immediately after its release. Teefey explained,

“It kind of just put me in a headspace that you just don’t want to revisit after you’ve grown through so much.”

She added,

“So, when the time comes, and I feel like I’m ready to watch it, I’ll watch it. But what I’ve seen of it, it’s beautiful.”

The documentary follows the singer through a 6-year period and highlights her personal life and career.

Through the years, Selena Gomez and her mother Mandy Teefey have worked together and come closer together. Like any other mother-daughter duo, they choose to spend quality time together and celebrate each other’s wins.
