McCaffrey’s job with the Butler Bulldogs just got a whole lot harder.
The Butler Bulldogs’ season just got a whole lot harder with the news that Augusto Cassia is out “indefinitely” through injury, meaning Caitlin Clark’s boyfriend will need to come up with some new coaching ideas in the NCAA.
Connor McCaffrey works for the college basketball team as an assistant coach after spending spells with the Iowa Hawkeyes and WNBA’s Indiana Pacers, and has helped the side win seven games in the 2024 campaign, with four losses too.
Two of those losses have come consecutively, most recently against the Wisconsin Badgers, and now they face an additional setback with the injury to their star sophomore after he severely damaged his knee.
“Sophomore Augusto Cassia sustained an injury to a ligament in his right knee in Tuesday’s game,” Butler Men’s Basketball posted to X.com, formerly Twitter. “He is out indefinitely.
“The injury does not require surgery and is not season-ending. He will continue to be evaluated over the next few weeks.”
Who do the Bulldogs play next?
Cassia, who is from Brazil, leads the team in field goal percentage at 66.7% and has also made the second-most blocks on the team in 15 minutes average playing time, proving how vital he is to sustaining pressure and protecting the defense.
The 6ft 8in player also backed his up numbers with 5.1 points per game, 3.1 rebounds and 0.8 assists averages, showing that he is contributing on the offense too, although in a limited capacity before the injury.

It will be interesting to see what Caitlin Clark makes of the new look Bulldogs as they look to compete without the man from Salvador. The WNBA icon is regularly spotted at their games to support her boyfriend, who she has been dating since April 2023.
The Bulldogs will next be in action on Wednesday, December 18 when they take on the Marquette Golden Eagles at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee. Tip-off is expected at 21:00 ET/18:00 PT.
