Without Caitlin, the WNBA is going back to what it was before.

I can hear the ESPN execs , “what do we do now? Let’s lower the hoop. Or give away free pizza coupons.

And give away $20 during halftime to one person that sinks a shot from half court. Give out free red caps that say, Let’s Make the WNBA Great Again.”

The Unrivaled women’s basketball league, launched by WNBA icons Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, is putting on a full-court press to recruit rookie sensation Caitlin Clark.

With the league’s first season quickly approaching, Unrivaled has assembled an impressive roster of 36 players, but Clark remains a key piece they hope to secure.

Unrivaled reportedly offered Clark an enticing contract with a salary exceeding $1 million, along with equity and revenue-sharing terms that mirror high-profile deals like Lionel Messi’s recent agreement with Apple.

Despite the substantial offer, Clark is still weighing her options, acknowledging the league’s interest while keeping her future plans open. When asked about joining Unrivaled, Clark gave a measured response: “We’ll see. I don’t know. Just taking it as it goes, and see if I want to play eventually.”

Unrivaled’s All-Star roster

Unrivaled has already landed big names such as Angel Reese, Jewell Loyd, Clark’s fellow Indiana Fever teammate Aliyah Boston, and her former Iowa teammate Kate Martin. President of Unrivaled, Alex Bazzell, is confident there’s a spot waiting for Clark whenever she’s ready.

“We’re always going to have a roster spot for Caitlin Clark,” Bazzell shared in an interview, emphasizing that Unrivaled is respecting Clark’s need for downtime, adding, “We are letting her decompress from basketball… She knows that we have a spot for her when she’s ready.”

While the official roster will be announced on Nov. 20, Clark has until then to make her decision. As it stands, her rookie contract with the Indiana Fever does not include a bonus for taking the offseason off, which means her choice is ultimately driven by her current goals and needs rather than contractual incentives.

Clark’s workload and dedication throughout her rookie season have fueled speculation that she might skip the league’s opening season, opting instead to recharge and focus on her WNBA performance.

Joining Unrivaled would place Clark among some of the biggest names in basketball, positioning her to participate in a league that already promises to shake up the basketball world.

With its unique three-on-three format and commitment to promoting women’s sports, Unrivaled has captured the attention of both fans and athletes alike.

Unrivaled’s inaugural season kicks off in January with an eight-week schedule, and Clark’s potential involvement would further solidify the league’s appeal and bring even more visibility to the next generation of women’s basketball.

Her answer may determine whether Unrivaled’s lineup becomes a marquee roster that fans can’t wait to watch. The basketball community will be watching closely to see if Clark decides to add her talents to this groundbreaking league.
