Kate Martin Makes Caitlin Clark Move Amid WNBA Offseason

The former Iowa teammates still share a strong connection.

As the WNBA offseason begins, the relationship between Golden State Valkyries guard Kate Martin and Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark appears to be as strong as ever.

The two WNBA players shared the court together in college for the Iowa Hawkeyes from 2020-2024, making it to the NCAA championship game in each of their final two seasons in Iowa City. Martin recently revealed that it was her “job at times” to get messages through to Clark at Iowa because of their trusted connection off the court.

After averaging 6.2 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1 assist to help expansion team Golden State make the playoffs in its first WNBA season, Martin is keeping Clark close as she prepares for the next phase of her basketball journey.

Kate Martin Trains for Unrivaled With Caitlin Clark Basketball

In a video posted by Martin’s trainer, Maxwell Schmarzo, she was seen practicing with Caitlin Clark’s Signature Series “Oasis” Wilson basketball.

The blue-and-white ball includes hand-drawn designs that represent Clark’s “happy places” away from basketball — water, fairways and sand traps on the golf course. The “Oasis” is one of four signature balls released in June that Clark helped design.

Wilson recently announced a build-your-own feature allowing customers to mix and match elements of Clark’s Signature Series basketballs into a custom ball.

In the training video, Martin and Schmarzo focused on attacking the basket with strength and leverage — key skills that the Valkyries guard will need in Unrivaled, the 3-on-3 league in which she is playing this offseason.

Kate Martin, Caitlin Clark’s Offseason Plans

Martin was announced as one of Unrivaled’s 46 confirmed players ahead of the league’s second season starting Jan. 5. Unrivaled has left two of its 48 roster spots unfilled amid “productive negotiations” with multiple candidates.

One of those candidates could be Clark, who reportedly turned down a $1 million offer to join the league in its inaugural season. The Fever star has not announced any offseason basketball plans besides preparing for an upcoming USA Basketball camp, which she called her “top priority.”

Clark played just 13 games for Indiana in the 2025 season amid multiple injuries. She averaged 16.5 points, 5 rebounds and 8.8 assists.
