Kelsey Mitchell Provides New Update on Injury Ahead of WNBA Playoffs

The Indiana Fever will face the Connecticut Sun in game one of the first round of the WNBA Playoffs on Sunday.

For many Fever players, including All-Star guard Kelsey Mitchell, this will be the first playoff game of their WNBA careers. Mitchell has been with Indiana since 2018, so it’s been a long time coming for the former Ohio State star.

In the final game of the regular season against the Washington Mystics, Mitchell put a scare into Fever fans when she went down in the first quarter with a leg injury. After staying in the game for another minute, Mitchell went back to the locker room with a noticeable limp. She returned to the bench with a knee brace and didn’t see any more time.

On Saturday, just one day before her playoff debut, Mitchell spoke to the media and gave a new update on her injury status.

“I feel great,” Mitchell said. “Hopefully, you guys saw me; I didn’t think I looked bad. I feel great; I think for us, it was just about precautions. Prevention, so to speak.”

Mitchell finished the season averaging a career-high 19.2 points, tied for the most on the team with rookie Caitlin Clark. She caught fire after the WNBA’s return from the Olympic break, scoring over 20 points in all but two games during that time span, which includes the final game.

If Indiana wants to make a run in the postseason, they will need their All-Star trio of Mitchell, Clark and Aliyah Boston to be healthy and at their best.
