New Orleans has warned Philadelphia Eagles fans not to climb their poles ahead of Super Bowl 59.
The city is set to host the big game at Caesars Superdome next month and would prefer to avoid any incidents, especially following what took place over the weekend.
Philly fans have a knack for climbing poles to celebrate wins. It’s reached the point where the city had workers to grease them, although that’s only served to make them more daring.
Pole climbers were back at it after the Eagles beat the Washington Commanders to win the NFC Championship Game on Sunday night, proving that the measures taken have done little to dissuade them.
With fans set to head to New Orleans for the upcoming Super Bowl rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Philadelphia Inquirer contacted the New Orleans Police Department about its stance on pole climbing. The department told the Inquirer that the practice is both illegal and unsafe, as most of the street lights in the French Quarter are unlikely to hold anyone’s weight.
“Regarding climbing street light poles, that is not only illegal (trespassing) but is unsafe as many of the street light poles in the French Quarter are quite old,” a spokesperson said. “Climbing on them risks toppling the light pole.”
Teenage Philadelphia Eagles Fan On Life Support After Pole Incident
Eagles fans really would do well to stay away from the poles in New Orleans following an 18-year-old sustaining a bad head injury that has him on life support in hospital after falling from one after Sunday’s game.
Meanwhile, the NFC East side will look to avenge their controversial loss to the Chiefs in Super Bowl 57 when the two teams meet on February 9.
The Eagles had the best defense in the NFL all season, as well as the most dangerous running game. Should they maintain their form for one more game, it could spell trouble for the three-peat-hopeful KC.
