NFL. Andy Reid may be worried about Patrick Mahomes and considering action with the Chiefs
NFL. Patrick Mahomes Sr. Begins jail sentence: Impact on NFL star’s big week ahead
As you may recall, last September, Patrick Mahomes Sr., father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, was sentenced to 10 days in jail, five years of probation and one year of “intensive supervision” after pleading guilty to his third DUI charge. He was arrested in February, just days before the Super Bowl against the San Francisco 49ers. In fact, the video of the arrest was released last week, and in the footage, Pat Mahomes Sr. is seen in the back of a police car, handcuffed and talking to the officer.
Off-field problems for Patrick Mahomes
But despite this difficult situation with his father, who has been sober for over six months, as he shared on his Instagram, along with the many injuries to key offensive players, it doesn’t seem to affect Patrick Mahomes when it comes to securing wins, although it does show up in the stats. Mahomes, a two-time NFL MVP and three-time Super Bowl MVP, threw two picks and posted a career-worst 44.4 passer rating against the San Francisco 49ers to lead the Chiefs to their 12th straight win dating back to last year. Mahomes has 1,389 passing yards, his lowest total through six games, and has more interceptions (8) than touchdowns (6) this season, with a career-low 82.5 passer rating, but the Chiefs are winning, which is what matters.
But while it’s all laughter and happiness for the Chiefs, being the only undefeated team in the NFL and adding a star like DeAndre Hopkins to the most needed position on the team today to continue their dream season for the three-peat, the one who is suffering is Patrick Mahomes with the news that his father, former baseball player Patrick Mahomes Sr. has officially begun serving his 10-day jail sentence related to a DWI conviction. He was booked into the Smith County Jail in Texas on Tuesday afternoon, where he was given a new mug shot.
Mahomes Stays Focused Amid Personal Struggles
Mahomes has shown that these issues do not affect him on the field, but with such low statistics, he knows that this should concern him as the professional that he is; the last thing he needs is a distraction. The team, especially the defense, looks amazing and is clearly 100% focused in every game, making no mistakes. No matter which player is on the field, everyone looks good with Andy Reid’s game systems and defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s strategies.

But not everything is bad for Mahomes; today the Chiefs added DeAndre Hopkins, the receiver in his 12th season at 32 years old, who needed to be on a contending team because time does not forgive. Hopkins has 15 receptions, 173 yards and one touchdown this season, but his quality is undeniable, making him an immediate factor in an offense that needs to wake up.
With their bye week now behind them, the Chiefs face a grueling 12-game stretch to end the season with their first test against the Las Vegas Raiders. The game will have a special flavor because of what happened in the offseason when a Raiders player mocked Mahomes for having a voice similar to Kermit the Frog.
