Chiefs’ Shocking Week 6 News: Why Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce will be sidelined!
The Chiefs Kingdom will miss Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce in Week 6 of the NFL.
The Kansas City Chiefs kicked off the 2024 NFL season with style.
With Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce leading the way, head coach Andy Reid’s squad remains undefeated after five weeks of action.
However, in Week 6, the team’s biggest stars will be notably absent from the field.
Despite early-season challenges, the Chiefs have strung together a winning streak that keeps them among the favorites to reach the Super Bowl from the AFC.
Their most recent win, a commanding 26-13 victory over the New Orleans Saints, one of the NFC’s top playoff contenders, solidified their strong start.
.
Still, Mahomes and Kelce aren’t putting up the best numbers of their careers.
Mahomes has 1,235 yards on 111 completions out of 160 attempts, with six touchdowns and six interceptions.
With these numbers and the team’s various challenges in the first part of the season, it’s time for the Chiefs to regroup and strategize for what’s next.
Luckily, Week 6 is their bye week.
.
The Chiefs’ game plan during the bye week
Reid and the Chiefs’ front office know that despite being undefeated, there are clear issues that need addressing.
Topping the list is the lack of depth in their receiving corps.
Following the season-ending injuries to Rashee Rice and Marquise Brown, Mahomes has struggled to find reliable targets.
This bye week presents a crucial opportunity for Reid and general manager Brett Veach to secure much-needed reinforcements for their star quarterback.
Getting Mahomes and rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy in sync is key to the team’s future success.
Worthy arrived with high expectations, but his performance so far has been underwhelming. Through five games, Mahomes has targeted Worthy 21 times, resulting in just 12 catches for 179 yards and two touchdowns.
The ground game has been another area of concern.
Although the running game has managed to adjust after the injury to Isiah Pacheco, rookie fullback Carson Steele has underperformed, leaving much of the offensive burden on veteran Kareem Hunt.
These two weeks will be critical in refining the team’s rushing attack.
What’s next for the Chiefs?
The Chiefs need to address these issues quickly, as they face a tough test when they return.
After the bye, they’ll travel to California to take on their Super Bowl LIV rivals, the San Francisco 49ers.
Despite their 2-3 record, the 49ers remain one of the NFC’s top contenders, and Levi’s Stadium is still a difficult place to play.
Just ask the New York Jets and New England Patriots, who both lost there this season.
Mahomes, Kelce, Reid, and the rest of the Chiefs will get a brief break, but when they return, they’ll need to work harder than ever to stay on track for their historic three-peat.
